The Board of Trustees
Advocacy West Wales is an independent mental health charity providing comprehensive independent advocacy services in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
The current Board of Trustees are:
Chair: Andy Watters
Andy trained as a social worker and worked in various roles supporting people with mental health, learning and other disabilities before becoming a trainer and lecturer in further and higher education. He was active in the lecturers trade union and a member of the Wales Region executive.
Following retirement he worked part-time directly supporting people with mental health issues and learning disabilities, advising on good staff practice and health and safety matters. He has a strong interest in Human Rights and has been a trustee of AWW/EGC since 2013

Personal : Married to Tina, five children and two grandchildren.
Qualifications : Certificate of Education, Diploma in Advanced Educational Studies, Bachelor of Philosophy in Educational Studies.
Professional background : Voluntary social worker with Kingsway Community to support homeless people in London. Principal Child Care Officer at a residential special school in Carmarthen. Teacher in Charge at a Special Unit in Llanelli. Special Education Officer and Manager of Services to Children with Dyfed County Council and Carmarthenshire County Council.
Current responsibilities : Town and County Councillor for Carmarthen West; former Mayor of Carmarthen; Chair of Governors, Richmond Park Primary School; Governor, Ysgol y Dderwen Primary School; Member of Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Panel; Management Committee Member of Dr. Mz Carmarthen Youth Centre; Committee Member of Ty Cymorth Hospice, Carmarthen; Committee Member of Talking Books for the Blind, Carmarthen; Member of Carmarthen Night Light Street Pastor Scheme; Chair of Carmarthen Dementia Initiative; Chair of Carmarthen Well being, Health and Emotional Support Team; Chair of Trustees for Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Carmarrthen; Chair of Trustees for Carmarthen Family Centre; Trustee for Advocacy West Wales / Eiriolaeth Gorllewin Cymru

These are voluntary roles – expenses are available. The hours are as the role demands – trustee meetings are held on the second Wednesday morning of each month in Haverfordwest.
Ability to speak welsh is desirable but not essential.
We appreciate your interest in becoming a Trustee of Advocacy West Wales.
Being a trustee is a rewarding experience. It gives you an opportunity to put something back into the community. You can use skills you already have and develop new ones. You will meet new people, both amongst the trustees and on the staff team, and have the opportunity to work as part of the team. You will know that you have been able to contribute to helping individuals feel heard, and influence their own lives, often at times of crisis or concern.
